Paperwork is complete

October 28, 2010

I didn't realize how much paperwork was involved with the buying of real estate!  I was advised by the salespeople and friends to make sure I have a lawyer go over the agreement.  So, after calling around, I found a nice lawyer who actually gave  me an itemized list of what she will do and how much it would cost!  I didn't even have to leave the office..just scan and email her the agreement.  She found a few things, but mostly it had to do with the capping of certain closing costs.  I sent the changes off to the builder, and they of course agreed to the  capping but made them higher.

Next came the mortgage.  While I had already gone to my bank to see how much I qualified for, it is important to get a "locked in" rate for the interim.  The nice part was, the bank representative of the builder called me and when she found out that I was already her bank's customer..I didn't even have to fill in an application..she would already have the information....sweet...again I didn't have to leave the office.  I got a locked in rate, and if the rates go down, I will get that..if they go up, the lowest rate stands, can't get a better deal than that.

So I'm all set..now just wait...here is the piece of land that will become a subdivision sometime in the next year or two.

"My" House is in the paper today!

October 16, 2010

It's Saturday and I have a massive migrane..no trigger that I can think of...so could the "stress" be setting in already?  Probably more like I haven't had a good night's sleep since I signed the papers...lots of plans and decisions are going through my head, and my best creative juices flow at night.

This morning I open up the "New Homes" section of the Toronto Star, like I have been doing for the past three months...and cross my fingers that a new better location hasn't just been released, because that would just suck!  Instead there is a centre page spread of Mattamy Homes and all their locations..and lookie here there is the house that I chose,.."plan 7, elevation A"..(not the most inspiring name).  Now since there was only one 7A remaining..they are technically advertising a house no longer on the block (pun totally intended).   Of course I cut it out for prosperity!

Today I plan on visiting Home Depot, just a look around for inspiration; and Staples to see if they have any software to keep track of costs etc of a new house...might end up just using excel though.  Also want to pick up a nice fat binder to start putting in all the papers that have started to build up.  I'm obsessive about organizing and research, so this will be right up my alley!

Today I bought my first house

October 14, 2010

I just purchased my very own house!  Actually, the house hasn't even been built yet, not even a model..just bought from a plan!  It is both an exciting and scary prospect!

In the next 18 months, I'd like to use this space as a diary of sorts.."dear diary..you know what I did today?"

It's late..better get some shut eye..still have to go to work and earn money to pay for my "dream home"
